Welcome to Beech Springs Farm and my very first blog post EVER! I can’t believe how complicated it is to create a blog, but after an entire day’s efforts, Beech Springs Farm is up and running and I can tell you about our new adventure. First of all, my name is Jayne Shord and my husband, Bill, and I are the owners of Beech Springs Farm. Ours is a small family-owned farm, located near Gettysburg, PA. For the past five years, I have been raising Certified Naturally Grown produce and selling it to area residents at the Gettysburg Farmers Market. ![]() Selling at the Farmer’s Market has been such a fulfilling experience for me. I love the interaction with residents and tourists and the opportunity to provide them with fresh, healthy produce, harvested direct from my farm. However, this year I am embarquing on a new endeavor and will include a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program as part of our farm’s offerings. For those of you who are not familiar with CSA, a detailed explanation can be found under the CSA tab in this blog. CSA was originally started in Massachusetts by Robyn Van En in the 1980′s. In the beginning the concept started rather slowly. However, over the past thirty years, CSA has grown expotentially. While farmers across the country, and in many other parts of the world, have been realizing the potential of the CSA to add to their farm’s income, consumers have become increasingly concerned about where their food comes from and how it is produced. The result, according to the Local Harvest website, is over 3,000 CSA’s across the country with programs as varied as their numbers. The Beech Springs Farm CSA will have a limited number of shares available for the 2011 season. All of the crops are Certified Naturally Grown and most are heirloom varieties. For those of you who have been customers of mine in the past at the market, I think you can attest to the quality and variety of my products. We are excited to have the opportunity to offer this program to the public and will work with subscribers to ensure that we meet individual needs. Sign up early and become part of our farm family. Best wishes to you and yours for a very Happy New Year. Jayne
