Veggies from A to Z

I cannot believe how many different varieties of vegetables I ordered this year!! Every year when the seed catalogs start coming, I’m like a kid in a candy store. Even though I keep promising myself that this year I’m going to be more practical and limit my seed order, there’s always that one new heirloom that’s been introduced that I cannot resist.

Well, when I got all of the seeds together this weekend and started organizing them for planting purposes – garden or seed flats – it was might scary!!   It was like when someone tells you  ”your eyes are bigger than your tummy…”  Yep, this year I think I really did it!  I hope it isn’t a case of my eyes are bigger than my garden…

So, now that all of my seeds are organized from A to Z and I’ve begun planting flats in the greenhouse, I’d like to tell you about a cookbook that is also organized alphabetically.   It’s called “Asparagus to Zucchini,” and its chock full of recipes and cooking tips for using farm-fresh seasonal produce.   The book was originally created in 1996 by the Madison Area CSA Coalition to help CSA members make the most of the wide variety of produce they receive from their farms each week.

As a member of Beech Springs Farm’s CSA, from time to time you might also receive produce that is unfamiliar and wonder how it should be prepared.  Some CSA’s provide recipes every week, which takes a lot of time and coordination; however, I have decided to take a simpler approach and provide members with an entire recipe book at the beginning of the season. One (1) copy of  “Asparagus to Zucchini” will be provided with each full and half share and will be included with the first week’s pick-up. Additional copies will be available for $15.00 each.

I’m excited to be able to provide this resource for members and look forward to a great growing season.  A few CSA shares are still available. Invite your friends and family to share in this experience with you.
